Questions About Teambuilding
What does a typical
Team Building program consist of?
Although each team building program is unique
to each client and participating group, there are some common
elements that we feel should be part of most programs. The
only exception is in the case of a program that is 1/2 day
or less . Here is our template for a typical team building
program of one to three days in length.

Are these programs safe, can
anyone do them?
Our programs usually fall into three categories,
simulations, initiative programs or high adventure component programs.
Ninety five percent of our programming is of the simulation or initiative
variety. We feel these programs provide the same sort of impact as
our high adventure programs, while exposing participants to a lesser
amount of perceived risk, that is the feeling that they may be liable
to be hurt as a result of their participation. Our basic initiative
programs can be done anywhere and have no physical requirements for
participation. We operate out of a philosophy of "Challenge by
Choice", that allows participants to determine their own level
of physical and emotional participation. The high adventure team programs
have a greater degree of physical activity associated with them and
may require the participant to sign a liability release. We have found
that there is no age or strength level that keeps people in generally
good health from fully participating. Safety is our number one priority.
In our eleven years of operation, our most significant injury has been
a sprained ankle which occurred while walking to the program site.
All our staff are certified in first aid at the First responder level
or higher.

Where do these programs take
place, are there options?
We have the logistical ability to program world
wide. More than seventy percent of our programs take place at a conference
center of the clients choosing. All our initiative programs can be
done at either a conference setting or the work site itself. We have
portable equipment including a portable mountain available to simulate
many adventure situations including rock climbing. The high adventure
programs may require additional travel for participants. We try as
much as possible to minimize travel for participants and to use regionally
based facilitators, so as to reduce the over all cost to the client.

How much does the average
team building program cost?
Because all our programs are customized, there are
many cost variables. The primary variable is group size. Our base negotiable
fee is $2200 per day per group of 8-12 participants. This fee can vary
up or down depending on the complexity of the program. When consulting
or needs analysis is needed to determine specific goals or outcomes,
we charge a consulting fee of $150 per hour. Special services like
360 degree feedback and administration or administration of the Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator are charged additional fees. The client is usually responsible
for site rental fees and for lodging and travel expenses. These fees
are guidelines and we are open to negotiation, and do discount for
large groups or multi-day programs. We also offer discounts for programs
contracted more than 3 months in advance. We are open to negotiating
on program cost.

Can an Adventure Learning
Associates experiential teambuilding programs permanently change how
our group works together?
NO, it is our belief and experience that no stand-alone
experiential program or day can have a lasting effect on work behavior
or organizational culture unless three additional factors are part
of the design and in place.
- The program must be a part of and reflect existing
organizational objectives and goals.
- The program must be part of an organizational
initiative, intervention or reflect and reinforce existing skills
training in a particular content area.
- The program must be designed with a follow-up
session that renews experiential learnings as well as reexamines
content areas and looks at ongoing issues.
